Now here’s an interesting concept and a new spin on dating, FunKards. Set to be the next best thing to internet dating, this simple Australian concept merges traditional ways of dating with 21st century geek technology.
The founders of FunKards had the brainwave of morphing the traditional business card into a formidable dating tool for the very shy. If you like someone, hand them a card! The founders claim it’s simple, discreet, efficient and very charming because everyone is flattered to know someone finds them attractive.
The business card would contain a simple id number and website address, and if the recipient likes the look of the person who handed it to them they can go check them out online. At this stage the site becomes like most dating sites, a romantic networking portal.

This year’s poll winner for the London tube station (underground) that passengers are most likely to fall for each other is Bermondsey, South London.

Tottenham Court Road was voted the least romantic.
The poll was conducted by Craigslist, the online noticeboard that includes a section for lovestruck strap-hangers called Missed Connections. It’s a cracking little idea that you should definately look at if you find youself stuck on the tube staring at someone… and you don’t have the time to make your approach - it’s a longshot but they may have felt the same emotions for you and posted a message.

Mediadate.com, a specialist dating site for people working in media has been set up, and looks to bring likeminded people together.

An uninspiring design trying to target creatives - I just don’t get it!!
The site was a brain child of a couple of journalists and is looking for single advertising and marketing people, journalists, media planners, designers, PRs, photographers and the like.
It’s free for members to join, however membership is £16 per month. It wasn’t particularly clear from the site just how many members there are and what the take up has been so I’m afraid I can’t comment.
The site is lacking creativity in its own right – surely fellow creatives are going to be put off by this! If you have any experiences with this site please can you share them.
A Texas (USA) based company (SameLane) has just completed a piece of software that enables drivers to call strangers in other cars via their mobile phones!

Whilst in the past, singles have registered on specific websites and then been sent stickers to add to their bumpers hoping that someone will get in touch with them, in this instance motorists register their number (licence) late and mobile number on the dating site and then receive a sticker to add to their bumper to show they are available and can be called.
If someone likes the look of you and you have the sticker on your bumper they can call a central line, enter the number plate and then be put straight through to the other driver’s phone.
Sounds like a stalkers dream right!
The stickers on number plates has recently started here in the UK, but we are yet to see an internet entrepreneur make it rich in this field!
