When you get back from a stressful day at the office is the first thing you are greeted with a rolling pin wielding wife looking for a fight? A study conducted by researchers at Harvard University and the University of California at Berkeley found that after a stressful day, female spouses were more likely to instigate fights and alienate themselves from their partners.

So how can you help her chill out and avoid the dish cloth round the back of your head:

Talk & Listen – Play the pshchologist for one evening a week and confornt her to see if anything is bothering her. Then listen intensly to their feelings and worries. Dr. Brizendine from the University of California said “Women use communication to navigate and ease the ups and downs of life.” The key is to tackle small issues early before they esculate into bigger problems.

Check up on her – A phone call or text three times a day to make sure she is OK can make her feel special. Louann Brisendine, M.D., author of The Female Brain said “Talking releases a rush of dopamine and oxycotin (the ‘reward’ and ‘bonding’ neurochemicals) in a woman’s brain.” A simple “I can’t wait to see you tonight” is enough to distract her from the insanity of the day and reinforce the love circuits in her brain.

Quality time – Something many of us fail to set time aside for in our busy work schedules. Organise a babysitter and take your wife out once a week. The rewards are a long lasting intamacy between you both
