Are you senior, single and feeling sexy?

Then you may also have retired and be able to afford the time to meet someone new and enjoy your golden years to the full. Recent studies have shown that senior citizens are increasingly looking for love after the death of a spouse or a divorce, and that older couples are staying sexually charged later in life – apparently according to The National Council on Aging reported that nearly 30 percent of men in their 80s still engage in some sort of sexual activity at least once a month.

“Men are never over it,” says 79-year-old Wally Pascoe. “They could be 95, and they’re still looking.”

For women, the numbers are a bit lower, but that could be attributed to the fact that women over 65 outnumber men by 15 percent, and by the time their 85th birthdays roll around, women dominate the arena 10 to 4.

There is a downside - incredibly, whilst pregnancy concerns may go out the window, in the US the fastest growing AIDS demographic is the over 50s heterosexuals. Only one sixth are likely to employ a condom during sex. Because AIDS-related symptoms of dementia, pneumonia and weight loss are relatively common in older age groups, physicians and patients often assume these symptoms to be natural and therefore don’t pursue testing.

When it comes to actual dating, many seniors it seems just can’t be bothered and are clearly not interested in it. Desires clearly change and seniors become set in their own ways – however as a human being your desire for companionship will never disappear.

Apparently men are much more likely to recommit after finding themselves single in their later years. Whereas women have more of a support system within each other and can find emotional warmth in non-sexual ways.

According to the The National Council on the Aging nearly half of all Americans age 60 or older engage in sexual activity at least once a month. The random survey of 1,300 older Americans also found that:

• 72% of older men and 47% of older women said that maintaining an active sex life is an important aspect of their relationship with their partner.

• 39% said they want more frequent sex

• 51% of men and 12% of women said that they have a medical condition that prevents them from having sex.

• 62% of both men and women said that their sex life today is equal to or more physically satisfying than it was in their 40s.

• 57% or men and 30% of women in their 70s are sexually active.
