Blind date tips (Part 2)
Got a blind date…. You need to read this!
OK, you re probably thinking ‘where is the best place to meet?’. You should not take this decision lightly as it involves your safety. Think about finding a well populated location and remember to tell a friend exactly where you are going and when you will return. NEVER AGREE TO A SECLUDED LOCATION ON A BLIND DATE!
Open your mind to whatever may happen prior to the date. Don’t think negatively about the experience as it will end in disaster. It’s quite natural to feel nervous; you can bet your bottom dollar your blind date feels exactly the same. Just remember the golden rule – HAVE FUN!
When it comes to the end of the date make sure you end it appropriately. If it is clear that on initial meeting that it is going nowhere and there is clearly no attraction, then do the right thing for both of you and be honest and end the date. However, if you enjoyed it, don’t be afraid to say so and either suggest a second date or hint at your partner to make the move.
Depending on how confident you feel and the situation, it is sometimes acceptable to bring a friend on a blind date, especially if you are less than 18 years of age. A friend is helpful to break the ice and inspire confidence.
How long should the date last?
Well, dependent upon what you do and whether it’s an evening or daytime date, the average is between 2-4 hours. Daytime dates often last a little longer, and evening dates, a little shorter. It is important to remember that on a successful blind date, you need to develop a little mystery about yourself encouraging your date to ask you out again to find out more. Don’t tell them your life story on the first night. There is nothing worse than running out of things to talk about – first dates can be exhausting, and therefore you may just be physically tired of talking which can be misconstrued.
Don’t play too hard to get on a blind date, and be courteous at all times – ask yourself ‘how would I expect to be treated?’ and decide on your principals prior to the date. Don’t whatever you do LIE – this will get you off on the wrong foot and more than likely be uncovered on later dates.
