As the old song goes ‘breaking up is hard to do’! We all of a sudden fall out of our comfort zone and into the unknown, and this is often very daunting for most.

In many cases a break up is down to bad communication, and not effectively talking when you need to. Obviously it’s up to both parties to make the effort and try and resolve whatever has come between you. The magic words are compromise and communication. Without either of these the relationship is doomed. There need to be an open dialogue at all times and it’s important that neither of you get too stubborn and bogged down on issues.  Obviously if you have been through all of this and still no resolve at lest you gave it your best shot and can move on. We all have regrets about previous relationships, things we could have done or said.

So the first thing to do if you are feeling distant from your partner is to talk and be honest with how you feel, then work towards a compromise and an agreement as to how you can either move on or try again.

In many cases after one partner has consoled in another, the relationship takes on new bounce and people often end up happier. But if it is terminal then at least you walk away with your dignity and knowing you were honest.

In summary:
1. Recognise the problem
2. Talk about it and be honest
3. Work out how you can fix it
4. If you can’t then be honest
5. If you can, enjoy the relationship take on new life
