Nutter who dated single mums to kill their kids!
Sounds like something out of a horror film I know! This guy is a proper nutter who manipulated single mums to get to their kids. The 2003 drowning death of a three-year-old girl was no accident , and neither was the series of injuries to young children they say Joel Zellmer left in his wake.
Court documents accuse Zellmer of dating women with young children, persuading them to take out insurance policies on the kids, and then finding some way to harm the children to try to collect on the policies.
He is being charged in the drowning death of his three-year-old stepdaughter, Ashley McLellan. Zellmer says the girl wandered outside to eat some cake he had left, and that she then went to wash her hands in the unlit, uncovered pool. It was 39 degrees out that night, and the girl was afraid of the dark.
Prosecutors say he drowned her to collect on a $200,000 policy.
