Online Dating Sites.  Features = Members

Posted by Hayden Allen-Vercoe on Tue 18th July 2006 at 06:32 AM, Filed in Niche Dating

Have you tried typing online dating into Google, it has to be possibly the most competitive keyword in the world with some sites paying huge premiums for PPC.  The thing is that there really isn’t much difference between them and the market is entirely saturated with well designed (some) and usable dating sites – but they tend to do all the same thing.

From a business context, the online dating world now needs to evolve and become more somewhat so as to differentiate and give even more value than the 1m odd sites already out there.  Some companies have chosen to go the route of niche dating but for my money, what you people want is to join a community that offers as much personalisation as possible to you.

Someone has finally understood the need to give you the space you want!

This is why MySpace has been so successful, and arguably become a huge dating portal, because you can do whatever you want in your space and you are not confined to standards.

We have become incredibly demanding as consumers, and rightfully so – look at all the choice out there.  Brands that embrace the notion that you want as much freedom and personalisation as possible will be the ones that gain ion popularity.

This leads me onto a dating site I stumbled across, CheekyFlirt.com which has launched the ability add a ‘Tattoo’ to their profile page from a choice of over one thousand options.  In my eyes this is a fantastic idea as a tattoo can graphically represent what sort of person you are, and you’ve all heard the saying ‘a picture tells a thousand words’.

I understand this particular site has also members to add a music video to their newly-designed profile page, but rather than having to find the relevant code from somewhere on the Internet, CheekyFlirt allows the member to search by artist or song title, and provides a comprehensive list of tracks to choose from, all without the member having to leave the CheekyFlirt interface.  They have also built in a feature which allows you to send virtual gifts to other members, how cool is that!

I’ve given this site a fair amount of praise, and I promise I’m not on their payroll, but they have spotted the need to be different and welcomed it with both arms giving you what you want.

Have you got a site you want me to review, email me here and I’ll post my findings.
