The latest dating craze - Speed Dating but with board games!
Everyone’s heard of speed dating by now, if you don’t - you take turns to talk to 10 – 20+ people who are potential partners for a few minutes before you are moved onto the next until you have spoke with everyone. You make notes as you go about who interested you and who didn’t – then you get the opportunity to organise a date if they felt the same vibes!

Well, this has just been turned on its head with the introduction of Board Game Speed Dating. You don’t even need the same boring questions lined up ready to go, you just play board games with them. And see how it goes!
In essence, the games are a lot shorter than Snakes and Ladders - there needs to be the possibility of finishing the game in the time or people will get frustrated!
How does it work I hear you say…
Well, at a Board Game Speed Dating event guests have around 20 to 25 face-to-face short “dates” with single people, normally lasting 5-8 minutes. Guests move in opposite directions so every guest is at a new table. And with a new table comes a new game. And a new date!
The Game in effect acts as an “ice breaker” and as it is a new game on each table both guests need to get it together to play the game!
The events are organised so that there are breaks for you to grab a drink at the bar and mingle further with the other guests and maybe even to swap game tactics!
If the thought of watching them demonstrate their forearm technique throwing dice sounds good, then you should check out CheekyDice.com and see when the next event’s on. I’ve heard it’s a ball!
NEXT EVENT: Board Game Speed Dating launch Event takes place 8pm at Mish Mash, Clapham, on Valentine’s Night on 14 February 2006.
It is followed by a Single’s Party until 2am with DJ.
