Women yearn for romance and foreplay more than sex itself – reports a recent survey from Australia. A good question then is ‘why do men find these two things the hardest?’ but that is another story for another time!

There’s foreplay, then there’s FOREPLAY!

The study was unique in itself – the researcher used hard and soft porn to try and unearth really what turns a woman on – turns out it’s the entire opposite to the average man.

120 women aged between 18 and 45 were given 7 minutes of porn to watch at their leisure. The snippets were typical male-oriented segments focusing primarily on sexual intercourse while the rest watched films which also had sensuality, romance and foreplay.

The clear winner was kissing believe it or not, more so that the act of sex itself.

“We suspected it and now it’s clear - it’s the romance, the sensuality that really does it for women,” Dr Sheen said.

“We already know men have a physiological response when they’re aroused by genitalia and eroticism but for women, it’s more emotional.”

A related study assessed the same women and put them in the position of imagining themselves as one of the characters in a soft porn film. The results found that the women found it far more arousing, more interesting and more entertaining.

“I’ve heard too many women say ‘I’m just not a sexual person’, the psychologist said.

“You would wonder if perhaps, it’s not that they’re not sexual but that they haven’t actually found what it is that turns them on.”

The chief researcher gave some advice to men…

“Don’t assume you already know what does it for women because I found out that a lot of women were surprised by the types of things they found arousing.”
